As stated by the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "must decide whether the appraisal or evaluation is suitable for the transaction, the uncertainty of the transaction, and whether the methods by which the collateral valuation is collected guarantees independence and quality." In addition, they "should denote whether the appraisal or evaluation report is consistent with the letter of engagement, which gives an account of the outlook of the appraisal assignment." The Federal Reserve also notes that "some institutions reinforce regular reviews with post-funding surveys of appraisal quality for a few of their high-risk or high-value transactions as a channel to help in identifying valuation disputes."
